RESEARCH REPORT
The main research question was - How can energy be saved efficiently at school? We researched from many reliable websites and made one document consisting of 5 ways to save energy at school. When we were sure of the document, we moved on to the methodologies. The surveys were conducted by Ved and Ayush. We surveyed 10 people from different schools. The interviews were conducted by Ayush, Vansh and Ved. We asked politely to others if anyone would opt for being interviewed. There were a total of 2 people interviewed and they were accurate with all the answers. Everyone contributed in making the questionnaire and always came up with a nice question. For the first interview, we used Google Meet. We were however not able to conduct a video call for the second interview, hence we used a normal audio call. They answered appropriately to all the questions. Everyone in the group was a part in making the result. Some made the summary and some made the reports. We decided the different ways we should present our work on Weebly and started to make it attractive. Then, we started with the sub-questions. We divided them among ourselves and started researching. When we got enough information, we summarized the content into our own words. In November, a WhatsApp group with the children of the Netherlands was made. Everyone introduced themselves and talked about the research methods and research questions. We divided the reports and summaries needed to describe the interviews and surveys. After the first video call, the participants from the Netherlands stopped interacting with the group. We got them to talk by asking some questions about their progress and telling them about our work progress. There were 4 people in the group for saving energy from Netherlands. They responded quite quickly after seeing the message. Coming to the units that we have used in our research. Power can be defined as the rate at which work is done. The SI unit of power is none other than watt which is represented by the symbol "W". 1 Kilowatt (KW)=1000W. 1Watt=1 Joule/s. We can define energy as the capacity to do work. The SI unit of energy is joules (J), which is named in honor of James Prescott Joule. 1 Kilojoule=1000J.
Research report conclusion-
We collaborated among ourselves to conduct research, carry out interviews, surveys etc. The editor processed the results and displayed it on the Weebly page. Every member from the group conducted primary and secondary research for the main research question. Overall, we made it quick in understanding and processing the rests which helped us immensely.

INTERVIEW-1
Summary - Interview 1
The interview with Hryday proves that energy can be saved in multiple ways. Many of them are known by people, but some do not know that there are many other other ways of saving electricity. Hryday has explained some different and new measures that can be followed to save energy more efficiently. Using sensors and other high technology is a creative way to save energy. The future can be good, as well as bad. There will be better technology and devices in the future, but the amount of fuels that are used to generate energy will also be left at an extremely small amount. The responsibility of saving energy is an important duty. Hryday is very careful to save energy every time he can. He talked about some people who don't care about saving energy for the future. The benefits are anonymous. Fuels are very useful and are used in almost everything, all around the world. Using natural light is a very big advantage. Even your peers and classmates can help conserve energy. They can always remind you about your responsibility and even do it themselves in some situations. Taking help from them is absolutely fine. We hope the future brings new technologies that can save resources and energy from getting over.
Report - Interview 1
On October 20, the students from the third group of Eumind in Mainadevi Bajaj International School conducted an interview with a student, named Hryday, who is responsible for saving energy at school. The interview was conducted via online platform zoom. According to Hryday, his class saves energy efficiently by using natural light, and switching off electronics when not in use. On the other hand, Hryday mentioned that sometimes students try and ignore the fact that saving energy is important and they tend to forget certain tasks given to them. Schools could use time lapse systems or electronic sensors to control the switching on and off of the electronics in use. It is best to save energy wherever and whenever possible by the help of your peers. Peers should also help representatives in saving electricity. Therefore, students must try and become more aware about saving energy efficiently. Hryday stated, "When we save energy, we save our future generations." This is very rightly said as saving energy today can give us a brighter and cleaner future.
Interview 1 conclusion -
Hryday was ready with his answers and very good at portraying his different ideas and methods. He had a lot of understanding about how we can save energy.

INTERVIEW-2
Summary Interview 2
The second interview was indeed very helpful to understand how companies can save energy efficiently. Mr. Vikas talked about how schools can also save energy. He is a person who understands the importance of energy saving and fuels that provide us with energy. He saves energy everywhere possible. Saving energy can have many benefits. It has multiple benefits. He hopes the future brings such technology that sensors will be developed in such a way that they can be used at schools to save energy. A society is not enough to bring a change large enough to conserve energy for the future. Everyone needs to work together and hard enough to save the future. Power cuts will save energy, but it is not a good idea at all. Places like Police Stations, Hospitals and hotels need continuous supply of energy to function properly. These places do public service and are essential for everyone. Everyone can save energy, be it laborers or students. Mr. Vikas’ company uses machines which use less energy and give a less electricity bill too. Energy can be saved in many ways, by everyone in the world.
Report Interview 2
The second interview with Mr Vikas was conducted by Ayush and Vansh. There were many questions asked by them like, “How can energy be saved at schools” and “Are power cuts a good idea to save energy”. It was conducted on a phone call, and lasted for around seven minutes. The subject of the interview was, How can schools save energy efficiently. Mr Vikas answered all the questions precisely and elaborated on all of them. Motion sensors can be evidently used in all rooms of a school and can be a lot of help. They will switch on the lights when they sense movement within five metres of range, and switch off the electronics when no students are in the class. If we save energy, we will be able to save the future. Everyone must strive to save energy wherever they can. It will only make a large difference if all the people of a society start saving energy and use as less energy as possible. Schools can change to LEDs or CFLs from incandescent lights. This will reduce the energy consumption and the life expectancy of these lights are also more. Everyone in a society needs to work to save energy, otherwise it will not be enough.
Interview 2 conclusion-
Mr. Vikas had excellent ideas of saving energy and helped us a lot in understanding them. He answered according to the question and elaborated on them. It was nice interviewing him.

DIGGING DEEP INTO THE RESEARCH..
1) Mainadevi Bajaj has many policies to save energy at school:
3) Most efficient usage of energy is a must and Mainadevi Bajaj International School is using energy efficiently, by saving energy in many ways. They are explained below:
No electricity will be used for electronics such as computers, projectors, etc. Unnecessary heat from heaters and cool air from air conditioners will not be released, saving a huge amount of energy. Students in MBIS are aware of these methods of conserving energy. They understand the importance of conserving energy and they implement all these measures strictly. Many students in MBIS prefer sunlight instead of man-made lights. They also actively participate when assigning classroom jobs, and make sure they follow their job. Hence, the students of MBIS contribute in saving energy. 5) •The LEDs, CFLs, and Incandescent Light Bulbs:
•In school, 2 hours out of the 6-7 hours are used in outdoor activities. If lights are switched off in this time period, LEDs will save up to 64,800 Watts of power. CFLs will save 100,800 Watts and incandescent bulbs save 432,000 Watts of power. •The energy saved will vary from the different light bulbs the school uses. MBIS uses LEDs, so the KW used in 1 hour period will be 0.0085KW |
2) Use solar panels - solar panels should be used in every place possible. They are one of the best ways in which you can save energy. Solar panels work in the following way: Sunlight hits the solar panels, and creates an electric field. The electricity generated flows to the edge of the panel, and into a conductive wire. The conductive wire brings the electricity to the inverter, where it is transformed from DC electricity to AC, which is used to power buildings. Use draught proof windows and doors- this is a great idea and draught proofing your house can save up to 25% of energy. It will stop the warm air escaping the room in winter and the and hot air entering your room in summers. Attach sensors to electricity appliances - using sensors on air conditioners and fans could be very helpful as when the room reaches a specific temperature( which is set by the user ) the air conditioners and fans would turn of on it own and also switch on, on its own so minimum electricity is used and the room will still remain cold. 4) We need something more efficient to replace the incandescent light bulbs. Lights power for the whole day, making it one of the most significant energy-using electronics. Modern LED bulbs have gotten cheaper so that it is easier to buy. More LEDs are produced and sold. As an added bonus, some options allow you to control the color of the light and change it at will.
Making energy efficiency habits for students can be very beneficial. This can be done by assigning different kinds of tasks to different students. For example an electrician who can be in charge of turning the lights on or off and an IT person who can help with classroom computers and electronics. By giving students extra responsibilities in the classroom, they can follow these steps in their home as well to conserve energy. There are many rooms that people don’t use much, such as the restrooms. Some schools keep the lights switched on till the time of session for safety of students. Motion sensors can be used to save energy at school. They are inexpensive and they can turn themselves on and off in places which are not much used. They will automatically switch on when the person enters, and switch off when movement is not sensed. That will mean that the room is now empty. |
SURVEY
Survey Summary
Our group has taken some surveys of a few students, so we can get to know how they can independently save energy at school. This survey was conducted through a social media platform - WhatsApp, because we could not go to every individual's house due to coronavirus. All of them gave great ideas. A 13 year old girl named Nibha gave an idea about switching off the light, fans and air conditioners before leaving the classroom. The same idea was suggested by Vedant, Sia and Gurveer. Manan, a 13 year old girl, had a suggestion to control the air conditioners and fans with timers. A 14 year old boy named Kavya told that the schools could install drought proof windows and doors. He also suggested using the exact amount of water for every job so none is wasted. Many students knew about the difference between Incandescent lights, CFLs and LEDs. They mentioned that switching to CFLs and LEDs would save a lot of energy, the cost of the lights will be less, and the life possibility is also more. Renewable resources would be an efficient way of conducting energy. Keeping doors closed when electronics are in use will reduce the time taken for the room to cool, reducing the amount of time the electronic was switched on for. Lastly, Vinisha, another 13 year old girl, proposed a solution to use natural sunlight to the max and only switch on light when really necessary. Almost every student suggested using solar panels to generate electricity and use that electricity wherever and whenever possible. These were all of the answers we got from the survey and I think that if we use these in our day to day life we can at least save a little rather not much energy at our schools.
Survey conclusion : We conclude that everyone has a different perspective on how to save energy however the most popular way to save energy is to turn off electronics when not in use and the least popular way to save energy is to use sensors and assign jobs.

COMMUNICATION REPORT
Coordinating with the European students went nice. They were kind and always helping out. They had many creative ideas and we had an understanding between us. The first video conference was held via zoom and we got to introduce ourselves to the peers. They had started a lot of their research by then and had planned how to display it on Weebly. They told us about many methodologies that we could have used. We exchanged ideas as to how we had planned to proceed. We used Whatsapp to stay in touch with each other. We all contributed some questions that were to be asked in the video conferences for the communication and comparison part of the research. We replied to each others’ messages constantly and kept in touch. We recorded each other's progress and helped each other out whenever needed. We learnt a lot about their energy saving habits and their ways of displaying their research. The communication went smoothly and was fast as it was online. The second video conference was held on google meet. We were ready with our set of questions and they were ready with theirs. It was a lovely time conversing with them.
